Umm Layla
Umm Laila ( Arabic ليلى بنت أبي مرة بن عروة بن مسعود الثقفي, DMG Lailā bt. Abī Murra b. ʿUrwa b. Masʿūd aṯ-Ṯaqafī ) was the wife of Imam al-Husain ibn ʿAlī and the mother of ʿAlī al-Akbar bin al-Ḥusain , both of whom died in the battle of Karbala .
She threw herself on the dead body of Hussein and is therefore venerated by the Shiites as the “mother of martyrs ”.
