Umm an-Nar ( Arabic أم النار Umm an-Nār ) is an island with archaeological excavation sites in the United Arab Emirates , southeast of Abu Dhabi . The Umm-an-Nar culture (approx. 2500-2000 BC) is named after this place. A Danish expedition led by Geoffrey Bibby excavated a small settlement here in 1960 and in the following years. During these excavations, a round burial building was first uncovered, which had been built entirely of stone. Some of the stone slabs used were decorated with simple reliefs. The bones of the dead or the dead have been buried in this building for centuries.
A short distance away, a small settlement was discovered whose houses are also made of stone. The typical painted ceramics of this culture should be mentioned in particular. But there were also vessels of the Kulli culture , which suggest overseas trade.
