Gaia Environmental Foundation

The environmental foundation Gaia was founded in 1987 by the agricultural scientist and ecologist José Lutzenberger . It has been recognized as a non-profit organization by the local, state and federal levels in Brazil. It is located in Pantano Grande in Rio Grande do Sul .

Tasks and meaning

The foundation works in the field of environmental education and the promotion of socially compatible technologies such as regenerative agriculture, sustainable management of natural resources, natural medicine , decentralized energy generation and alternatives to wastewater disposal.

She owns around thirty hectares of land in an old basalt quarry known as Rincão Gaia (Gaia Corner). Through an ecologically coordinated management, a biologically diverse ecosystem has developed over the years ( biodiversity ). Examples of this are that jacobes , kingfisher, beaver rat , otter, tawny owl and other animal and plant species have settled here. There is also the center for environmental education and the dissemination of regenerative agriculture.

The Gaia Environmental Foundation offers a range of educational activities such as courses, workshops, seminars, tours and eco-leisure meetings in the Gaia Corner .
