Undercover jihadist: How I spied on the Islamic State's recruiting network (Original title: Dans la peau d'une djihadiste: Enquête au cœur des filières de l'État islamique ; literally: “In the skin of a jihadist: Investigations in the center of the recruitment channels des Islamic State ”) is a book by the French author Anna Erelle . The investigative report was first published on January 8, 2015 by Editions Robert Laffont , Paris.

The author - a freelance journalist and author in her thirties - pretended to be a young, barely 20-year-old convert named Mélodie in the spring of 2014 and did research on social networks to find out which methods radical Islamist organizations in Europe were using to recruit young people for the war in Syria . To do this, she made contact with a commander of the “Islamic State” on Facebook and elicited information from him about mercenary life in the combat zone. The journalist publishes the result of her weeks of research under the pseudonym "Anna Erelle". After the appearance, she is threatened by IS with a fatwa and now lives under police protection.

In France, the first edition reached 35,000 copies; it was followed by a paperback edition in the same year. The book has since been translated into more than 14 languages. The German edition was first published in bound format in May 2015 by Verlag Droemer; it was followed by a paperback edition at Knaur in April 2016.

The Westphalian State Theater Castrop-Rauxel has been showing a stage version of the book since the 2016/17 season, which is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (premiere on September 15, 2016). The production is aimed particularly at teenagers and young adults.

The State Center for Civic Education North Rhine-Westphalia recommends the book on its website.
