The Hungarian Pictorial Chronicle , also known as Chronica (Hungariae) Pictum , Chronica Hungarorum , Chronica Picta , Képes Krónika or Chronica de Gestis Hungarorum , is a work from the 14th century that describes the history of the Kingdom of Hungary in Latin . The full title is Chronicon pictum, Marci de Kalt, Chronica de gestis Hungarorum , in German picture chronicle, Mark von Kalt's chronicle of the deeds of the Hungarians .

The chronicle, which contains 147 pictures, reports in Latin on the politico-military history, the lifestyle, the culture, the traditions and legends of medieval Hungarians. It consists of parchment sheets with a format of about 300 × 210 mm. The lid is made of white leather.

The work was created around 1360 under Ludwig the Great . The story breaks off when reporting on the defeat of the Hungarian King Karl Robert against the Wallachians under Basarab I in the battle of Posada in November 1330. The illuminator's work also remained unfinished.

The chronicle was kept in the Vienna court library until 1932 , hence the other name, the Viennese picture chronicle . After the Venice Cultural Agreement in 1932, the book was returned to Hungary. The work is now kept in the National Széchényi Library in Budapest .
