Hungarian Food Safety Office
The Hungarian Food Safety Agency (Hungarian: Magyar Élelmiszer-biztonsági Hivatal , MÉBiH) is a central government agency based in Budapest , Hungary . It was founded in 2003 and provides information to experts as well as the general public with regard to food safety .
monitoring
In Hungary, the Minister of Agriculture oversees almost all security activities in the food chain. The MÉBiH has been monitored by the Ministry of Agriculture since 2007 .
tasks
As a “non-authority”, the Food Safety Office has neither a control license nor does it maintain laboratories . One of its main tasks is the preparation of risk-based statements for monitoring activities and sampling plans for the food and feed control authorities . The MÉBiH collects, analyzes and evaluates information on food and feed safety.
In addition, the MÉBiH is the national contact point for EFSA , RASFF , WHO Infosan Emergency and FAO / WHO Codex Alimentarius.
Employee
The authorized number of employees at the Office is 18. They are supported by a scientific committee and nine scientific technical committees made up of recognized Hungarian experts. In addition to ministries, authorities and laboratories that deal with food control, the MÉBiH cooperates with scientific institutions, non-governmental organizations and professional associations. The director is Mária Szeitzné Szabó.
