Unique children's museum Leipzig

The Unikatum Kindermuseum Leipzig is a cultural institution with changing annual exhibitions on social issues in Leipzig . The interactive exhibitions to “join in and discover” are aimed primarily at schoolchildren and families.

The children's museum was founded in 2010 by exhibition planner Annegret Hänsel and has been run by her on a voluntary basis ever since. The facility is run by a non-profit GmbH and supported by a support association . For the most part, the operation of the facility is made possible through voluntary work. In 2017 the museum was significantly expanded and since then has provided space for several exhibitions, a courtyard garden and the “Museumscafé Goetz”, which is also used for exhibitions.

In 2012, the facility received the Saxon Prize for Socio-Cultural Commitment from the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. In 2014 the UNIKATUM Children's Museum won first place in the family friendliness award of the city of Leipzig.

Exhibitions

Every year, schoolchildren take part in a summer workshop to develop and design the new annual exhibition. The location is the building of the historic “Café Goetz” in the Leipzig district of Plagwitz .

  • 2015/2016: "The City Machine"
  • 2016/2017: "The crazy world hotel"
  • 2017/2018: "Oh dear time!" - renewed, revised presentation (for children of reading age)
  • since 2017: "The invention of the future - utopias between doubt and vision" (for young people and adults in the Goetz museum café)
  • since 2017: "The Kingdom of Imagination" (permanent exhibition for preschool and elementary school children)
  • 2018/2019: "Liebe Liebe" (for children from 10 years, teenagers and adults)
  • 2018/2019: "Bionics - Nature's Ideas Laboratory"
  • since 2019: "Schlaraffenwelt"
  • 2019/2020: "Climate rally"
  • since 2020: "If I were mayor ..."
