The National Cameroonian Union ( French Union Nationale Camerounaise or UNC , English Cameroon National Union or CNU ) was Cameroon's only legal political party until 1990.

history

The UNC was founded in 1966 by the union of the Cameroon Union (Cameroon Union, Union Camerounaise) with the Cameroon National Democratic Party and four other small parties.

The first party chairman was Ahmadou Ahidjo , who led the party until 1982. After President Paul Biya enacted emergency laws in August 1983, Ahidjo resigned as party leader. Biya was elected party leader at an extraordinary party congress in September 1982. In 1985 the Cameroon National Union was renamed the Democratic Collection of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement.
