The Stuttgart airport curve is a planned railway line in Baden-Württemberg . As Template: future / in 2 yearspart of the Stuttgart 21 project , it is to connect the new Stuttgart – Wendlingen line coming from Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof with the Stuttgart Airport / Messe station on the Stuttgart-Rohr – Filderstadt line in the direction of Rohr .

It is part of the planning approval section 1.3 of the Stuttgart 21 project. The planning approval for this section was applied for in October 2002.

course

The curve is to zweigleisig- height free feed out direction Wendlingen of the new line, at first run in the northeast direction in order to subsequently pass under the new line in the south-east. In the east end of the airport / fair station, the two tracks should initially merge into one track, before two track changes (four switches) join the airport – Filderstadt track in front of the platform.

According to other plans, it is planned to introduce the curve into the station on two tracks and to thread the track coming from Filderstadt into the southern track of the airport curve (standard travel direction Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof).

The route has gradients of up to 28 per thousand and radii of up to 300 m. The maximum speed in the curve is 80 and at the transition to the new line to Stuttgart 100 km / h.

history

An airport curve to connect the existing airport train station to the new line towards Stuttgart was part of the D4 variant for the airport area , which was subsequently introduced into the Stuttgart 21 regional planning procedure in April 1997 .

According to the planning status from 2001, the route with route kilometers 0.0 at construction kilometer 10.8 from the new Stuttgart – Wendlingen route should be double-tracked. It initially runs in a south-easterly direction parallel to the new line, before it turns into a left-hand bend in a north-easterly direction in kilometer 0.5; the southern track of the line crosses the new line in km 11.4. After a short straight line, both tracks, located northeast of the new line, merge at kilometer 1.0 into a 180 degree right-hand bend, initially in a south-easterly and then in a south-westerly direction. The new Stuttgart – Wendlingen line, the A8 and the Stuttgart airport loop will be crossed before the line merges into the route towards the airport.

A mining underpass of the A 8 is being considered.

In August 2018, the shell of the planning approval section 1.3a was tendered, including parts of the airport curve.

business

A traffic forecast expects a cross-sectional load of 14,800 travelers on the curve in 2025.

technology

The route is part of the Stuttgart digital node . It is to be controlled by a digital interlocking and equipped with ETCS and automated driving . It is provided ETCS Level 2 , largely "without signals".
