Union for Renewal and Democracy

The Union for Renewal and Democracy ( French Union pour le Rénouveau et la démocratie , abbreviated URD) is a political party in Chad .

The party is currently in opposition.

Since the death of party founder Wadel Abdelkader Kamougué in 2011, it has been led by Sande Ngaryimbé . Kamougué received 6 percent of the vote in the 2001 presidential election . In the parliamentary elections in 2002 , the URD achieved 3 out of 155 parliamentary seats, in the parliamentary elections in 2011 it received 9 out of 188 seats, making it the largest opposition party in parliament. The party withdrew its candidate Kamougué from the presidential election , which also took place in 2011 , because it considered the election conditions to be unfair.

The party is a member of the opposition party alliance for the defense of the constitution (Coalition des partis pour la defense de la Constitution, abbreviated CPDC).
