Uniseum
The Uniseum is the university museum of the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg im Breisgau .
It was opened in July 2004 and documents the university history of Freiburg. Information boards and numerous exhibits in the thematically arranged rooms on around 1000 m² provide an overview of the development of the university from its foundation in 1457 to the student movement of the 1960s .
In addition, some of the university's particularly influential disciplines such as medicine , applied natural sciences and the humanities have their own departments. In the field of medicine, a. famous Freiburg physicians and their research are presented, including the anatomist Alexander Hecker , the gynecologist Alfred Hegar , the pathologist Karl Heinrich Baumgärtner and the surgeon Ludwig Aschoff . There is a cabinet of wonder along the lines of curiosities from the Renaissance and a small Moulagensammlung . The designer Kurt Ranger developed the exhibition concept for the Uniseum.
The Uniseum is located in the old town in the former Jesuit college , to which the Freiburg University relocated its teaching in 1557 and which is now known as the Old University . The cellar vaults also reveal a glimpse into the history of this building and its predecessors.
The term Uniseum, a word created from university and museum, is protected by trademark law.
