UNCF

The United Negro College Fund ( UNCF for short ), also known as the United Fund , is a US non-profit organization that funds scholarships for black students and general scholarships for 37 Historically African American Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

The UNCF was established on April 25, 1944 by Frederick D. Patterson , then President of the Tuskegee Institute , Mary McLeod Bethune, and others. Headquartered in Washington, DC Each year, the UNCF awards more than 10,000 new scholarships to students from low- and middle-income families at approximately 1,100 colleges and universities. The total funding amounts to over 100 million US dollars per year.

Michael Lomax has been President and Managing Director of the UNCF since 2004 (as of April 2018). Past presidents of the UNCF include William H. Gray and Vernon Jordan .
