United States Penitentiary, Tucson

The United States Penitentiary, Tucson is a US federal prison in Tucson , Arizona . It has the highest level of security. It is part of the Tucson Federal Correctional Complex (FCC Tucson) and is administered by the Federal Bureau of Prisons . It is located within Tucson city limits, approximately 10 miles southeast of the city center.

history

The construction was completed in 2005. It accommodates an average of 1,000 prisoners in the high-security area. In May 2009, operations were stopped for a short time, as there had been heavy fighting among the inmates with weapons they had made themselves.
