The Universidad de Cienfuegos (German: University of Cienfuegos ) is located in Cienfuegos , the capital of the province of the same name in central Cuba .
It was founded on December 6, 1979 as the Instituto Superior Técnico de Cienfuegos (Technical University of Cienfuegos). It was declared a university in 1994 and named in 1998 after Carlos Rafael Rodríguez (1913–1997), one of the most important representatives of the Communist Party of Cuba in the 20th century. The newly founded university solved some problems for students from Cienfuegos who previously had to study at the Universidad Central de Las Villas ( Santa Clara ) or Universidad de La Habana .
The university had in the academic year 2012/2013 a total of 4,092 students, including 1,238 in the campus program , 859 in distance learning , 735 in part-time study and 1260 in the training course. Of the 4092 students, 2687 are women, 716 in face-to-face studies.
The university has different faculties:
- Agricultural Sciences (Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias)
- Business Administration (Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales)
- Humanities (Facultad de Ciencias Sociales y Humanísticas)
- Engineering Sciences (Facultad de Ingeniería)
