The Ehime University ( Japanese 愛媛 大学 , Ehime daigaku , short: Aidai ( 愛 大 )) is a state university in Japan . The main campus is in Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture .

history

Ehime University was founded in 1949 through the merger of the four state schools. The four were:

  • the Matsuyama High School ( 松山 高等学校 , Matsuyama kōtō gakkō , founded 1919),
  • the normal school Ehime ( 愛媛 師範学校 , Ehime shihan gakkō , founded 1876, state since 1943),
  • the normal youth school Ehime ( 愛媛 青年 師範学校 , Ehime his shihan gakkō , founded in 1927, state since 1944), and
  • the Niihama technical center ( 新居 浜 工業 専 門 学校 , Niihama kōgyō semmon gakkō , founded in 1939, state-owned since it was founded).

The university opened with three faculties: humanities and natural sciences, education, and engineering. In 1954, the Matsuyama Prefectural Agricultural College ( 愛媛 県 立 松山 農科 大学 , Ehime-kenritsu Matsuyama nōka daigaku , founded in 1900) became the Faculty of Agriculture. In 1963 the technical faculty moved from Niihama to Matsuyama (instead of the faculty, the city of Niihama received a state technical college). In 1968 the Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences was divided into two faculties. In 1973 the medical faculty was re-established.
