The University of Reykjavík ( Isl. Háskólinn í Reykjavík , HR) is the largest private university in Iceland. It is located in the Icelandic capital Reykjavík .

The university is closely linked to the Icelandic economy. Tuition fees are between 128,000 ISK (about 783 EUR) and 625,000 ISK (about 3,822 EUR) per semester .

history

In January 1988 the School of Computer Science ( TVÍ for short ) was founded at the Commercial College of Iceland . For ten years this college was housed in the Commercial College building.

On September 1, 1998, the institution was renamed the Reykjavík School of Business and moved into a new, separate building. The School of Computer Science was converted into one of two departments at the university. In January 2000 the name of the university was finally changed to Háskólinn í Reykjavík ( University of Reykjavík ).

In 2005 the former Technical University of Iceland ( Tækniháskóli Íslands ) was incorporated into the University of Reykjavík. The School of Computer Science was expanded and was named Tölvunarfræðideild (subject for computer science ), the faculties Tækni- og verkfræðideild (subject for science and engineering) were added, Lagadeild (subject for law) and Viðskiptadeild (subject for economics).

In 1992 a drug prevention project was started based on the concept of the American psychology professor Harvey Milkman, who now works at the University of Reykjavik. The successful prevention project has so far (2017) been imitated in 18 countries worldwide.

The university offers four subjects:

Three-year bachelor's degree programs (graduation with BS or BA) are offered in all subjects. The Faculty of Law also offers a two-year master’s degree, and the Faculty of Business and Economics offers two MBA programs.

The university is housed in a campus on the Atlantic coast that opened in autumn 2010. Before that, the university was spread over three buildings near the Kringlan shopping center.
