Stockholm University Library

The University library Stockholm ( Stockholms Universitetsbibliotek ) is the University Library of the University of Stockholm and one of the largest university libraries in Sweden . The visitor groups include students, researchers, teachers as well as the general public. The library has collections of both printed and electronic media. As a research library, the library offers numerous services such as: B. Courses in Research, Scientific Communication and References. Parts of the collections are available as open access . 1.4 million visited the library in 2012.

history

When the Stockholm University became a university in 1960, the then library of the Stockholm University became a university library, and the independent faculty libraries still existed. In 1971 the faculties of Stockholm University gathered on the Frescati campus where new buildings had been erected. In 1983 the new central library was opened by King Carl XVI. Gustaf inaugurated. The new central library became the center of librarianship with additional branches around Stockholm.

The central library was designed by the British-Swedish architect Ralph Erskine and was built as an extension of the university building from the 1960s. The building is characterized by Erskine with typical details such as B. balconies and an arched roof at the entrance. The library will be rebuilt and modernized in 2013–2015.

Libraries

Besides the central library, the university library consists of eight branches. In autumn 2014 a new library will open, the NOD library in Kista in Stockholm.
