University Institute of Valencian Philology

The University Institute of Valencian Philology ( Institut Interuniversitari de Filologia Valenciana (IIFV)) was founded in 1987 by a decree of the Valencian government issued in 1994. It is compiled by the three Valencian universities with higher philological studies (i.e. the University of Valencia , the University of Alicante and the University of Jaume I of Castelló de la Plana ).

  • The linguistic and literary study of Valencian within the general version of the Catalan language and literature .
  • Teaching and research goals.
  • Advice in all fields that have some kind of relationship with the Valencian linguistic and literary fact.
  • Apart from the autonomy of each university, the IIFV will be the only organism that has advisory and regulatory capacity on philological issues on behalf of the universities.

Inner structure

The IIFV has a board of directors, a general council and a council assembly. It also has technical and additional staff and scientists. The Directory is composed of 49 experts in Valencian philology. Its members elect the director every 4 years. You are responsible for the realization of the scientific goals of the IIFV. The director controls along with the board of directors. The council is composed of eleven experts from around the world. Your task is to advise the board of directors on scientific topics, if requested. The current director of the IIFV is Ferran Carbó, Professor of Catalan Philology at the University of Valencia.
