The Hogeschool Gent (abbreviated: HOGent ) is a Dutch- speaking university in the Belgian region of Flanders with facilities in Gent , Melle and Aalst .

History of origin
Although the beginnings of the previous institutions of today's university with the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten (KASK) go back to the year 1741, the current university was only created in 1995 as part of the Flemish university reform by amalgamating 13 previously independent universities. The Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten (KASK) and the Koninklijk Conservatorium (KC) were combined to form the School of Arts . Two more universities were added later, so that today a total of 15 formerly independent universities operate under the common name of HoGent . In 2009 the university had 16,429 students and was third behind the KU Leuven and Universiteit Gent in terms of student numbers in Flanders. The students are spread across the ten campus facilities in Ghent, Melle and Aalst mentioned above.
construction
The HoGent is a so-called multisectoral setting , which means that very different courses of study are combined under one roof, some of which have very few or no connections or overlaps with one another.
The following is an overview of the individual faculties:
- Mens en Welzijn ( education / social / health sector )
- Natuur en Techniek ( wood / agro / bio / chemical / textile technologies )
- Organizational needs ( business / IT etc. )
- School of Arts (KASK-Koninklijk Conservatorium) ( Music / Drama / Visual Arts Audiovisual Technology )
Most of the "academic" courses were moved to Ghent University in 2013:
- Toegepaste ingenieurswetenschappen (building science / electronics / chemistry / surveying etc.)
- Toegepaste bio-ingenieurswetenschappen (biochemistry / horticulture and landscaping / nutritional sciences)
- Toegepaste Taalkunde (multilingual communication / translation / interpreting)
- Handelswetenschappen en Bestuurskunde (administrative customer / corporate management)
degrees
The studies can be completed with a bachelor's or master's degree , depending on the respective course . There is also the possibility of a so-called postgraduate degree in certain courses as well as additional training of a more special kind.
Partner universities
HoGent is a partner university of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover and special programs are offered for visiting students.
