Our children. The specialist journal for education and care in early childhood is the only Austrian specialist journal for kindergarten and toddler education. It appears every two months, is published by Caritas Austria and published by Caritas for children and young people in Linz.

history

The trade journal was launched in 1924 as a work folder with instructions for use and handicrafts:

For two years (1924 and 1925) this work folder was sent three times a year as a kind of 'circular' to 10 kindergartens, which they were allowed to keep for a short time and then had to forward to the next specified address ... Already in 1926 the folder became property sent to each individual institution (kindergarten, day-care center and homes) and kept there. The content of the 'workbooks' has been continuously expanded. In addition to the handicraft instructions, there were pedagogical contributions mainly about the then modern Montessori pedagogy, but also novel suggestions for practice in the form of 'standard materials', which are better known to us as 'weekly materials' .

The number of workbooks increased rapidly. Just three years later, 800 folders were sent out. a. to what was then Czechoslovakia, Thuringia, Saxony, France as well as Turkey and Switzerland. The essays appeared in print for the first time in 1928. The trade magazine for our children , with an edition of 2,000 copies, was born. During the time of National Socialism it was no longer allowed to appear and was replaced by the specialist magazine Kindergarten published by the Nazi teachers' association .

After the collapse, Our Children appeared in 1946 , from 1950 with the subtitle magazine for kindergartens, after-school care centers and homes . Over the years, Our Children changed the subtitle and layout several times.

concept

Our children sees itself primarily as an information and discussion forum in the field of kindergarten and toddler education. It is aimed primarily at specialists in day-care centers, at students of social pedagogy, as well as at specialist advisers, subject teachers and those interested in education. The theoretical and practical contributions are in line with the model of Caritas and correspond to the current social and socio-political weightings. In addition, the denominationally bound trade journal contains an extensive magazine with reviews, comments, event information, etc. Illustrations, caricatures, photos and the like increase their accessibility and the joy of reading.
