Lower Aulaqi Sultanate
The Lower Aulaqi Sultanate ( Arabic سلطنة العوالق السفلى, DMG Salṭanat al-ʿAwāliq as-Suflā ; Another spelling for Aulaqi : Awlaqi ) was a state within the South Arab Federation from 1963 after it had briefly belonged to the Federation of the United Arab Emirates of the South from 1959 . Its capital was the coastal city of Ahwar ( Aḥwar , also Ḥawar ).
The Sultanate had as the top-Aulaqi Scheichtum in the 18th century by upper Aulaqi Sultanate split. In the 19th century the British expanded their influence in the region by force and in 1888 concluded a treaty with the sultanate, which was renewed in 1944 by Sultan Aidrus ibn Ali ( ʿAidarūs b. ʿAlī , murdered in 1948). In 1967 Nasir ibn Aidrus (Nāṣir b. ʿAidarūs) , the last sultan, was arrested together with the governor Prince Ali Abdullah (ʿAlī ʿAbdullāh) , whereby the sultanate in the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen , whose founders dissolved its feudal, aristocratic structures. Today the area is part of the Republic of Yemen .
