Company identification number

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The company identification number ( company identification number , UID , French Numéro d'identification des entreprises , Italian Numero d'identificazione delle imprese ) has been used by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) for every company that is economically active in Switzerland as a unique identification for everyone since January 2011 Authority contacts introduced. The UID is based on the federal law on company identification numbers. The UID replaces all identification numbers that exist in public administration, such as the VAT number or the commercial register number. The UID register is provided for public queries.

In the first step, all companies entered in the Swiss commercial register were included in the register. Companies subject to VAT have also been published in the UID register since March 2011. The UID can already be used as a VAT number, the previous six-digit number can still be used until the end of 2013. Similarly, other identifiers for companies will be replaced by the UID. By the end of 2015, all federal, cantonal and communal authorities must recognize and use the UID as a unique and uniform company identifier. Self-employed persons also receive a UID for their company from the FSO and can have this company published in the UID register.

Structure of the UID

The UID consists of three parts:

  • The ISO-Alpha-3 Code ( ISO 3166-1 ) of Switzerland (CHE)
  • an eight-digit randomly assigned, non-speaking number
  • a check digit according to the modulo 11 method

For better readability, the digits are separated from the country code by a hyphen and two dots: CHE-123.456.789 (invalid example). A company can add an addition to the letterhead indicating whether it is entered in the commercial register (HR) or whether it is entitled to input tax deduction (VAT). This UID addition is written after the number in this order, whereby the entry in the commercial register is always displayed first and the input tax deduction authorization is displayed second.

Change of other laws

With the introduction of the UID, further laws change, namely
