Sommacampagna is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 14,835 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Verona in Veneto . The municipality is located about 12 kilometers west of Verona (16 kilometers to the city center) in the Padan lowlands. The oldest surviving structure is a chapel from the 5th century AD, which is dedicated to the Apostle Andrew.

During the First Italian War of Independence , a battle between the Habsburg Empire and the united troops of the Kingdom of Sardinia, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies took place near Sommacampagna on July 24, 1848 .
