Legnago [ leɲˈɲaːɡo ] is a town with 25,570 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Verona , Veneto region in Italy .

Legnago is located about 39 km from Verona in the south of the province of the same name on the right bank of the Adige (Italian: Adige ). The area of ​​the village is 79.66 km² and the population density is 317 inhabitants / km². The patron saint of the city is Saint Martin .

history

Fortifications had existed since the 10th century and played an important role in the fighting during the establishment of the Republic of Venice .

In 1097 Alberto Azzo II. D'Este , the progenitor of the younger Guelphs and the Este family , was buried in the Vangadizza monastery in the Legnagos district of the same name .
