Isola della Scala is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 11,538 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Verona in Veneto . The municipality is located about 18 kilometers south of Verona .
history
The place was formerly called Isola dei Conti , Latin: Insula Cenensis . The current name goes back to the Scaligeri (or della Scala ) family, who ruled here from the 13th century. From the 15th century, Isola della Scala was also part of the Republic of Venice .
traffic
The municipality is crossed by the Strada statale 12 dell'Abetone e del Brennero from Verona to Modena . There is a train station on the route from Verona to Bologna . From here the Verona- Rovigo railway branches off .
