Giulio Cardinal Bevilacqua CO (born November 14, 1881 in Isola della Scala , Province of Verona , Italy ; † May 6, 1965 in Brescia ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman.

Life

In 1905 he joined the Oratory of St. Filippo Neri . He was ordained a priest on June 13, 1908 in Brescia and worked as a pastor in the diocese of Brescia . During the First World War he was a chaplain in the Italian army, and from 1916 to 1918 he was a prisoner of war . From 1926 to 1933 he was an employee of the State Secretariat for Protection against Fascist Threats, at the same time he worked in Rome as a pastor. During the Second World War he was a chaplain in the Italian Navy.

Bevilacqua was a personal friend of Pope Paul VI. from his studies at the University of Brescia .

He was appointed titular archbishop of Gaudiaba and auxiliary bishop in Brescia on February 15, 1965 . He received his episcopal ordination on February 18, 1965, the Bishop of Brescia, Luigi Morstabilini ; Co- consecrators were Giuseppe Carraro , Bishop of Verona , and Carlo Manziana Or, Bishop of Crema .

Four days later, the Pope accepted him into the College of Cardinals as a cardinal deacon with the titled deaconry San Girolamo della Carità . Bevilacqua received permission to continue working as a simple priest in Sant'Antonio della Pace in Brescia, where he had practiced modern pastoral care with strong links to the liturgical movement for decades .

Giulio Bevilacqua died just two months after his elevation to cardinal and was buried in the parish church of Sant'Antonio della Pace in Brescia.
