Giuseppe Carraro

Giuseppe Carraro (born June 26, 1899 in Mira ; † December 30, 1980 in Verona ) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Verona .

Life

Giuseppe Carraro received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Treviso on March 31, 1923 .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on September 29, 1952 titular bishop of Usula and auxiliary bishop in Treviso . The Bishop of Treviso, Antonio Mantiero , ordained him episcopal on November 1st of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Padua , Girolamo Bartolomeo Bortignon OFMCap , and the Bishop of Belluno and Feltre , Gioacchino Muccin .

On April 9, 1956, he was appointed Bishop of Vittorio Veneto . Pope John XXIII appointed him Bishop of Verona on December 15, 1958. His successor as Bishop of Vittorio Veneto was Albino Luciani, who later became Pope John Paul I.

As a council father, he took part in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . In autumn 1967 he was one of the participants in the 1st Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops .

On May 18, 1978 Pope Paul VI. his age-related retirement. His tomb is in the Verona Cathedral .

In the process of beatification initiated for him, Pope Francis granted him the heroic degree of virtue on July 16, 2015 .
