Castagnaro is a north-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3663 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Verona in Veneto . The municipality is located about 48.5 kilometers southeast of Verona on the Adige and borders directly on the province of Rovigo .
history
In March 1387 there was a battle of the same name between the troops of Verona and Padua near Castagnaro , which was won by Padua. The battle was almost exclusively fought by mercenaries, the so-called condottieri .

The municipality lies with a train station on the railway line from Verona to Rovigo . The Strada Statale 434 Transpolesana also runs through Castagnaro roughly parallel to the railway line.
