Upack (WinUpack) is a freeware - data compression program for Windows .

With Upack , Windows EXE files (not .NET ) can be compressed transparently (i.e. executed without prior unpacking).

The advantage of this program over others of its kind is the free availability and the good packing rate, because it is based on the LZMA , which is also used with 7-Zip .

Obfuscation

According to SecureWorks, Upack is also widely used for obfuscation in malware . B. used in the Trojan horse Gozi. However, a similar function is provided by any compression software for executable files, only the success of the obfuscation is influenced by the prevalence and whether the algorithm is recognized by antivirus software.
