The Urban Futsal Zurich (abbreviated UFZ ) is a futsal club from the city of Zurich . The club colors are white and blue. It was founded on February 5, 2009 by the two brothers Marco and Carlo Primerano and Roberto Vetere and is one of the most famous futsal clubs in Zurich.
The first team plays in the Swiss Futsal National League A and has so far achieved two promotions (2011/12 and 2013/14) to the National League A.
The first team of Urban Futsal Zurich plays its home games preferably in the city of Zurich. Due to a lack of space in the city of Zurich, the UFZ had to play its home games in the agglomeration of Zurich in recent years.
history
2009: The foundation
Marco and Carlo Primerano, two former amateur soccer players, began playing futsal in 2008 and took part in the Swiss Futsal Championship with a Zurich soccer club. During the season, both brothers were not satisfied with the club's management. The enthusiasm for this relatively unknown sport grew so fast that Marco spontaneously came up with the idea to found his own futsal club in December 2008. But as quickly as the idea came up, it was quickly forgotten. Marco's words, however, met with great interest from Carlo and so he began to think fundamentally about founding a club. In January 2009 he was finally able to inspire Marco about the potential of his own club and convinced him. A third club founder was then sought and the long-term friend Roberto Vetere was won over straight away. Urban Futsal Zurich was then founded on February 5, 2009 in Marco Primerano's apartment in Schlieren .

Green: Promotion to National League A Orange: Relegation to National League B |
Although the association had three members when it was founded, more members joined the UFZ in the coming months. The squad consisted of nine players at the start of the season. One of them was John Osso , who became the league's top scorer and would continue to shape the club over the years. Two more players were added towards the end of the season. The UFZ was divided into the National League B, which was the second highest league in the country at the time. The debut on November 29, 2009 against Futsal Club Vitoria played a 7-7 draw, which was the closest result in the league for several years. A week later came the first defeat (3: 7) against Futsal Minerva, which in a few years established itself as one of the strongest clubs in the country. The first win came on the next match day on January 17, 2010 against Dübendorfer Futsal Club, which was won 8: 6. The UFZ ended the first season in 3rd place.
2010/2011: Promotion to the National League A.
The following season at the UFZ is the most spectacular season in the young club's history. The season's goal was to improve third place, whereby the ambitions for promotion were present. There were three exits and three additions. In particular, the two new additions Miguel Silva and Simone Granata should help the team to put the club on the road to success. The first game of the season against NLA relegated Club Futsal Freiamt was worth an entry in the history books. The game ended with a 7-6 win, with a score of 6-6 until five seconds before the end. Goalkeeper Canaj threw the ball with his hands over 3/4 of the field, whereupon Carlo Primerano sprinted in the direction of the ball's trajectory and headed it directly over the opposing goalkeeper. On the last game day of the season, three teams (SPVGG Züri 86, Züri Flash and Urban Futsal Zurich) were at the top of the table with equal points. The UFZ had the worst cards for promotion, because the SPVGG Züri 86 was not allowed to win against Dübendorfer Futsal Club and the UFZ had to score three points against Züri Flash. But contrary to expectations, the SPVGG Züri 86 did not go beyond a 1-1 draw and the UFZ won the highly spectacular game 13:11. This meant the 1st rank and the qualification for the Barrage Games in order to be promoted to the NLA. The exciting Barrage game ended just 7: 6 for the UFZ, with Simone Granata being the celebrated hero of the game. So the promotion to the NLA was perfect. The Barrage victory qualified for the semi-finals for the National League B championship title. The game was lost 7-2 to FC Wettingen after a very elaborate final phase of the season. Particularly noteworthy this season were the performances of John Osso, Miguel Silva and Carlo Primerano, who together scored over half of the goals.
2011/2012 - 2012/2013: relegation and a new beginning
In order to close the gap to the clubs in the highest league, the board was of the opinion that further obligations were necessary. With Danilo Fimati, Gabriel Martins, Rick Rosendo (all from Futsal Club Vitoria) and Gabriel Guedes (from Portugal) four new players were added. During the season, Reuf Jukic was added. Captain Ricardo Lopes left the club before the start of the season due to differences of opinion. So he left a huge gap in experience, especially on the defensive. In addition, regular Fabian Fuchs injured himself before the start of the season and was out for the entire season. Coach Marco Primerano relied primarily on the newly signed Brazilians from Futsal Club Vitoria. This turned out to be a wrong decision. With eight defeats and one draw, Urban Futsal Zurich said goodbye to National League A as bottom of the table. Because the league system was restructured and the Premier League was created above national league A, one rose twice from the highest to the third highest league.
The poor performance and the bad mood in the dressing room prompted the board to make radical changes. Gabriel Martins and Danilo Fimati were suspended and joined the AFM Maniacs with John Osso. Miguel Silva, Gabriel Guedes, Andreas Sonderegger and Cédric Codoni left the club. Elbasan Canaj was also no longer considered. The new commitments were: Danilo Di Benedetto, Fatlum Canaj, Diego Würmli, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Spyridon "Spyro" Charelas and Haris Dizdarevic. The goal was to get back on track immediately. However, the team started the new season with a completely new squad and important points were dropped on the first match day. Although they were able to win against the eventual group winners 11: 3 on the last day of the match, they were missing two points at the end of the season. The UFZ finished the season in 2nd place.
2013/2014: promotion to second
The positive final phase of the season brought a new upswing for the club. The goal was still the ascent. Rick Rosendo, Fabian Fuchs, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Fatlum Canaj and Haris Dizdarevic left the club for private reasons. Dominic Staccoli, Alvaro Freitas, Heverton Souza, Michael Ehrensberger and John Osso were the new faces at UFZ. Especially as far as John Osso is concerned, it was a return after a successful season in the Premier League. In return for his commitment at club level, he was given the capital. The UFZ led the table from the start. Unbeaten and with only one draw, the UFZ was promoted to National League A on the penultimate match day.
2014/2015
In September 2014, John Osso became the first UFZ player to join the Swiss national team.
