As Urlehen is called in feudalism those fiefs, which were awarded on the occasion of the initial colonization of a place.

These fiefs represent the original property of a vassal and were mostly laid out according to plan. They were later often divided by succession into half-feuds and then into quarter-feuds. The properties built on the Urlehen are called Urhöfe .
