The location of the Alutila Cave in Bangladesh

The Alutila Cave (English: Alutila Cave ; Bengali : আলুটিলা গুহা ) is a limestone cave in Upazila Matiranga, Khagrachhari District of Chittagong Division in Bangladesh . It is located about eight kilometers west of the city of Khagrachhari on the road to Dighinala at about 300 meters above sea level in the Alutila hill surrounded by evergreen rainforest.

The cave is a more than 100 meters long naturally formed tubular tunnel through the hill. At its end there is a second exit to the surface. Almost the entire length of the cave is easily accessible, and spring water flows on its floor. The Alutila Cave is visited by numerous tourists and candles and torches are sold at the ticket counters with which visitors can illuminate their way in the otherwise unlit cave.

Alutila Vihara , near the cave

Also on the Alutila hill is the Risang waterfall and a few hundred meters from the Alutila cave is the Alutila Vihara , a Buddhist monastery. According to official information, the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority planned the expropriation of almost 300 hectares of land in 2016 to develop tourism . Opponents of the plans named an affected area of 800 hectares, on which 300 indigenous families secured their livelihood with Schwendbau . The representatives of the indigenous peoples and local authorities asserted that the central authority was conducting the expropriation in violation of legal provisions for the protection of indigenous peoples.
