The Chittagong Division ( Bengali : চট্টগ্রাম বিভাগ , Caṭṭagrām bibhāg , Chattagram Bibhag ) is one of eight administrative units in Bangladesh , which are superordinate to the districts and are named after their largest city.
geography
With an area of 33,771.13 km², the Chittagong division is the largest administrative unit and covers most of the south-east of Bangladesh. The administrative capital of the division is the port city of Chittagong , after which the province is named.
In the east of the division are the Chittagong Hill Tracts , an autonomously administered province, within the three districts of Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban. The Chittagong division also includes some of the islands in the Bay of Bengal, including the islands of Hatiya and Sandwip in the north west of the Ganges Delta and the islands of Kutubdia , Maheshkhali and St. Martin's Island in the south off the coast of the Cox's Bazar district .
