Chuadanga ( Bengali : চুয়াডাঙ্গা ) is an administrative district in central Bangladesh , which is within the Khulna Division , the superordinate administrative unit. In the capital of the district forms the city of the same name Chuadanga . The total area of ​​the district is 1157 km². The district is composed of 4 Upazilas . Chuadanga was declared a district in 1984.

Chuadanga borders the Kushtia district in the northeast , Meherpur in the northwest, and Jhenaidah in the south and southeast . In the southwest is the Nadia district (part of the Indian state of West Bengal ). The district has 1.1 million inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 45.9% of the population. 97.5% of the population are Muslim , 2.3% are Hindus and 0.1% are Christian .

The economy of Chuadanga is predominantly agricultural. The cultivation of cotton plays an important role. In addition to agriculture, the district is now experiencing industrial growth (mainly in the textile sector and food processing). The functions of the retail trade are mainly performed by small shops and traditional bazaars. According to the 2011 census, 66.1% of the workforce work in agriculture, 27.8% in the service sector (mostly informal) and 6.1% in industry .

Under British rule, Chuadanga was a subdivision of the Nadia district. During the British rule, the people of Chuadanga participated in several revolts against the colonial rulers. During the 1971 Bangladesh War , Chuadanga was the site of some early battles between the Pakistani army and the Bengali insurgents. A total of more than 100 battles took place here. Chuadanga was finally liberated by the Pakistani army on December 7, 1971 .

Chuadanga is connected to four of its nearby districts (Kushtia, Jessore , Jhenidah and Meherpur) by district roads and to Jessore and Kushtia by rail. The area is connected to the rest of the country by three state roads and the railroad.
