Rangpur ( Bengali : রংপুর) is a district in Rangpur . The city of the same name, Rangpur, forms the capital of the district . The total area of ​​the district is 2402 km². The district consists of 8 Upazilas .

The district of Rangpur borders in the north on the district Nilphamari , in the south on the district Gaibandha , in the east on the district Kurigram and in the west on the district Dinajpur . The district has 2,881,086 inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 48.5% of the population. 90.4% of the population are Muslims , 9.0% are Hindus and 0.6% are Christians , Buddhists or others.

The climate is tropical and warm all year round. The annual average temperature of this district varies from a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 11 degrees. The annual rainfall is 2931 mm (2011) and the humidity is high all year round.

The economy of the district is dominated by agriculture . According to the 2011 census, 62.7% of the workforce work in agriculture, 30.1% in the service sector (mostly informal) and 7.3% in industry .
