Kushtia ( Bengali : কুষ্টিয়া ) is an administrative district in western Bangladesh that is part of the Khulna Division , the superordinate administrative unit. The capital of the district is the city of the same name, Kushtia . The total area of ​​the district is 1609 km². The district is composed of the 6 Upazilas Bheramara, Daulatpur, Khoksa, Kumarkhali, Kushtia Sadar and Mirpur.

The district of Kushtia is bounded in the north by Rajshahi , Natore , Pabna , in the south by Chuadanga , Jhinaidah , in the east by Rajbari and in the west by West Bengal ( India ) and Meherpur . The Padma flows through the district. The district has 1.9 million inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 46.3% of the population. 97% of the population are Muslim and 2.9% are Hindus .

The climate is tropical and warm all year round. The annual average temperature of this district varies from a maximum of 37.8 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 9.2 degrees. The annual rainfall is 1467 mm (2011) and the humidity is high.

The district's economy is mainly dominated by agriculture . According to the 2011 census, 57.3% of the workforce work in agriculture, 32.6% in the service sector (mostly in informal settings) and 10.1% in industry .

The Bengali writer, poet and Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore once lived in what is now the district of Shilaidaha .
