Kishoreganj (District)

Kishoreganj (Bengali: কিশোরগঞ্জ) is a district in the Dhaka Division in Bangladesh. It used to be a Mohkuma (মহকুমা) in Maimansingh District . In the capital of the district forms the city of the same name Kishoreganj . The total area of ​​the district is 2731 km². The district is made up of 13 Upazilas .

Kishoreganj District is surrounded by Netrakona to the north, Habiganj and Brahmanbaria to the east, Narsingdi to the south and Maimansingh, Gazipur and Narsingdi to the west . The district has 2,911,907 inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 40.3% of the population. 94.5% of the population are Muslim and 5.4% are Hindus .

The climate is tropical and warm all year round. The annual average temperature of this district varies from a maximum of 33.3 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 12 degrees. The annual rainfall is 2174 mm (2011) and the humidity is high all year round.

The economy of the district is dominated by agriculture . According to the 2011 census, 59.6% of the workforce works in agriculture, 30.9% in the service sector (mostly in informal settings) and 9.3% in industry .
