Kurigram ( Bengali : কুড়িগ্রাম) is a district in Rangpur . In the capital of the district forms the city of the same name Kurigram . The total area of ​​the district is 2245 km². The district is made up of 9 Upazilas .

Kurigram borders on Koch Bihar in West Bengal to the north , Assam to the east, Jamalpur and Gaibandha to the south and Lalmonirhat and Rangpur to the west . The district has 2,069,273 inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 42.5% of the population. 93.4% of the population are Muslims , 6.5% are Hindus and 0.1% are Christians , Buddhists or others.

The climate is tropical and warm all year round. The annual average temperature of this district varies from a maximum of 32.3 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 11.2 degrees. The annual rainfall is 2931 mm (2011) and the humidity is high all year round.

The economy of the district is dominated by agriculture . Mainly rice, jute, wheat and tobacco are grown. According to the 2011 census, 71.8% of the workforce work in agriculture, 24.2% in the service sector (mostly informal) and 4% in industry .
