Jhenaidah ( Bengali : ঝিনাইদহ ) is an administrative district in central Bangladesh , which is within the Khulna Division , the superordinate administrative unit. The district is located in the highest and driest part of the Moribund Delta. In the capital of the district forms the city of the same name Jhenaidah . The total area of ​​the district is 1965 km². The district consists of 6 Upazilas . Jhenaidah was founded as a subdivision in 1862 and declared a district in 1984.

Jhinaidah is bordered to the north by the district of Kushtia , to the south by the district of Jessore , to the east by the districts of Rajbari and Magura and to the west by the district of Chuadanga . The district has an international border with India in the west. The district has 1.8 million inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 48.4% of the population. 90.4% of the population are Muslim , 9.5% are Hindus and 0.1% are Christians .

The economy of Jhinaidah is predominantly agricultural. The functions of the retail trade are mainly performed by small shops and traditional bazaars. According to the 2011 census, 66.5% of the workforce works in agriculture, 26.2% in the service sector (mostly in informal settings) and 7.3% in industry .

The climate is warm all year round. The annual average temperature varies from a maximum of 37.1 degrees to a minimum of 11.2 degrees and the average annual precipitation is 1467 mm (2011).
