Bogura (district)
Bogra ( Bengali : গাইবান্ধা), also Bogura, is a district in Rajshahi . In the capital of the district forms the city of the same name Bogra . The total area of the district is 2898.6 km². The district consists of 12 Upazilas . Bogra was founded as a district on 1983 and renamed Bogura in 2018. Bogra district was part of the ancient kingdom of Pundravardhana and the ruins of Mahasthangarh , the ancient capital of Pundravardhana, are north of the city of Bogra.
Bogra is bounded in the north by Gaibandha and Jaipurhat in the south , in the east by Jamalpur and Sirajganj and in the west by Naogaon . The district has 3,400,874 inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 49.4% of the population. 93.9% of the population are Muslims , 6.0% are Hindus and 0.1% are Christians , Buddhists or others.
The climate is tropical and warm all year round. The average annual temperature of this district varies from a maximum of 34.6 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 11.9 degrees. The annual rainfall is 2931 mm (2011) and the humidity is high all year round.
The economy of the district is dominated by agriculture . According to the 2011 census, 59.5% of the workforce work in agriculture, 29.4% in the service sector (mostly in informal settings) and 11.1% in industry .
