Bogra ( Bengali বগুড়া), also Bogura , is a city in Bangladesh . The district capital , located in the Bogura district, is not far from the Meghna River and is an important trading center in northern Bangladesh. The city is part of the Upazila Bogra Sadar. The population of Bogras is over 400,000.
history
Bogura is one of the oldest cities in Bengal and dates back to the reign of the Grand Emperor Ashoka , who ruled India from 268 to 232 BC. Ruled. When Ashoka conquered the Bengal (Bongo) region, he founded what is now Bogra and named the city Pundra Bardhan. This is supported by the discovery in October 2008 of an ancient engraved stone believed to have been made in the Gupta era near Sura Masjid in Dinajpur .
During Bangladesh's War of Independence , the area witnessed the Battle of Bogra, a bitter conflict between guerrilla units of the Bangladeshi insurgents and the Pakistani army .
climate
The city has a tropical climate with two main seasons: winter and summer. In summer there is much less rainfall in Bogra.
