Nilphamari ( Bengali : নীলফামারী) is a district in the Rangpur Division of Bangladesh . In the capital of the district forms the city of the same name Nilphamari . The total area of ​​the district is 1546.6 km². The district consists of 6 Upazilas .

Location and demographics

Nilphamari is bordered by Rangpur and Lalmonirhat in the east, Rangpur and Dinajpur in the south, Panchagarh in the west and India in the north. The district has 1,907,497 inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 44.4% of the population. 82.84% of the total population are Muslim , 17.17% are Hindus , 0.07% are Christians , 0.02% are Buddhists and 0.1% are others.

The climate is tropical and warm all year round. The annual average temperature of this district varies from a maximum of 32.3 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 11.2 degrees Celsius. The annual rainfall is 2931 mm (2011) and the humidity is high all year round.

economy

The economy of the district is dominated by agriculture . Rice , jute , tobacco , vegetables and fruits are mainly grown . According to the 2011 census, 68.6% of the workforce work in agriculture, 24.5% in the service sector (mostly in informal settings) and 6.8% in industry .
