Narsingdi ( Bengali : নরসিংদী ) is an administrative district in Bangladesh , which is within the Dhaka Division , the superordinate administrative unit. The capital of the district is the city of the same name, Narsingdi . The total area of ​​the district is 1150 km². The district is composed of the 6 Upazilas Belabo, Monohardi, Narsingdi Sadar, Palash, Raipura and Shibpur.

The district of Narsingdi borders on Kishoreganj to the north and northeast, Brahmanbaria to the east and southeast, Kumilla and Narayanganj to the south and southeast, and Gazipur to the west . The Meghna , Shitalakshya , Brahmaputra , Arial Kha , Haridhoa and Paharea are some of the rivers that flow through the area. The district has 2.2 million inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 49.6% of the population. 84% of the population are Muslim , 15.2% are Hindus and 0.7% are Christians .

The district's climate is relatively mild in both summer and winter. The maximum and minimum average temperatures in winter vary between 19 degrees and 23.7 degrees. While the maximum and minimum average temperatures in summer vary between 26 degrees and 29 degrees.

The region is famous for its textile industry. Agriculture also dominates . According to the 2011 census, 41.2% of the workforce work in industry (mostly in the textile sector), 35.9% in agriculture and 22.9% in the service sector .

The popular view of the origin of the district name Narsingdi is that an influential Zamindar named Narsingha Paul lived here in the 19th century , who was known among the population for his charitable work.
