Munsiganj ( Bengali : মুন্সিগঞ্জ ), also Munshiganj , is an administrative district in central Bangladesh that is part of the Dhaka Division , the superordinate administrative unit. In the capital of the district forms the city of the same name Munsiganj . The total area of ​​the district is 1004 km². The district consists of the 6 Upazilas Lohajang, Sreenagar, Munshiganj Sadar, Sirajdikhan, Tongibari and Gazaria.

The district is bordered by Narayanganj to the north, Madaripur and Shariatpur to the south, Kumilla and Chandpur to the east, Faridpur to the west and Dhaka to the northwest. The Padma River forms the southern border . The district has 1.4 million inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 56.1% of the population. 92.7% of the population are Muslim and 6.5% are Hindus .

The climate is tropical and warm all year round. The annual average temperature of this district varies from a maximum of 34.6 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 12.1 degrees. The annual rainfall is 2376 mm (2011) and the humidity is high.

The economy of the district is dominated by agriculture . According to the 2011 census, 40.9% of the workforce work in agriculture, 40.8% in the service sector (mostly informal) and 18.3% in industry .
