Magura ( Bengali : মাগুরা ) is an administrative district in western Bangladesh that is part of the Khulna Division , the superordinate administrative unit. In the capital of the district forms the city of the same name Magura . The total area of ​​the district is 1048 km². The district consists of the 4 Upazilas Magura Sadar, Mohammadpur, Shalikha and Sreepur.

The Magura district is bounded by Rajbari to the north, by Jessore and Narail to the south, by Faridpur to the east and by Jhinaidah to the west. The district has 918,419 inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 50.6% of the population. 82% of the population are Muslim and 17.9% are Hindus .

The climate is tropical and warm all year round. The annual average temperature of this district varies from a maximum of 37.1 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 11.2 degrees. The annual rainfall is 1467 mm (2011) and the humidity is high all year round.

The economy of the district is dominated by agriculture . Rice, jute, wheat, chillies, onions and fruits are produced in large quantities. According to the 2011 census, 65.6% of the workforce work in agriculture, 28.4% in the service sector (mostly in informal settings) and 6.0% in industry .
