Uriah (Prophet)

The prophet Uriah lived around the year 600 BC. In the Kingdom of Judah , around the same time as the prophet Jeremiah . He was the son of Shemaiah and came from Kirjat-Jearim . Uriah is mentioned by the prophet Jeremiah ( Jer 26 : 20-24  HFA ).

He foretold a disaster for the city of Jerusalem and the kingdom around it. King Jehoiakim gave orders to kill Uriah for it. In Egypt, where Uriah fled, he could not hide. He was taken to Jerusalem and executed there.

Surname

The name is Hebrew: ûrî + Jáhû "my light is Yahweh"
