The Ushakov monument at Cape Kaliakra was erected in 2006 on the initiative of the “Society of Friends of Russia in Bulgaria” and executed by the Bulgarian sculptor Nikola Bogdanow . As early as 1968, Bogdanow created a 3 meter high bas-relief on Cape Kaliakra with the Cyrillic inscription “Ф.Ф.Ушаков. 1791 г. ". The 6 meter high white concrete statue (total height of the monument is 8 m.) Stands on a rock about 70 meters high. The memorial was commemorated the 215th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Kaliakra July 31st jul. / August 11, 1791 greg. dedicated in which a Turkish fleet was defeated by Russian warships under Admiral Fyodor Ushakov during the Russo-Turkish War of 1787-1791 .

The monument was inaugurated on August 10, 2006 by the Metropolitan of the Diocese of Varna and Veliky Preslav Kiril Kowachev . In 2001 Fyodor Ushakov was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church as the righteous Theodor Ushakov . In 2011 a seven-aisled colonnade with 8 angular pillars was built in a semicircle behind the statue , on the entablature of which 18 bells hang, each bearing the name of one of the 18 Russian warships involved in the battle. The monument, which was opened to the public on September 24th, is officially called the Memorial to the Glorious Navy of Russia “St. Admiral Fyodor Ushakov ” .
