The Ushakov Museum of Local History (Russian Темниковский историко-краеведческий музей имени Ф.Ф. Ушакова ) is a branch of the Republican Museum of Local History in Mordovia in Temnikov .

history

The first museum of local history in Temnikow was founded in 1903 by the municipal nobility assembly (Russian дворянское собрание ) under Ujezd Temnikow and existed until 1956, when the collections were transferred to the new republican museum of local history. However, this museum was no longer named after Admiral Ushakov . Ten years later, Pyotr Smirnov, a well-known Mordwienien explorer and researcher into Ushakov's life, founded a new local museum, which was organized as a branch of the republican local museum. Initially, the museum was located in the Kulturpalast, where it occupied three rooms. In 1973 the museum was housed in a representative building that was built in 1809. In 1812, during the war against Napoleon , Admiral Ushakov established and financed a hospital for the wounded there.

The museum, which is now at 19 Kommunistichesskaya Street, has 10,000 to 15,000 visitors a year.
