Ustrichler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ustrichler is a figure of the Einsiedeln carnival . Since 1947 it belongs to the hermit Fasnacht and only occurs at the "Güdelzischtig" (Tuesday after Carnival Monday ) in appearance. The Ustriches wear black, knee-length trousers and a white shirt with a red and white scarf. The face is covered by a valuable wooden mask .

Particularly noticeable is the Trichel (bell), which the Ustriches wear on their backs with a wide hip belt. They hit these tricks rhythmically (so-called tricks ) and walk in a group of around 15 people through the streets of Einsiedeln. This is intended to "trick" the carnival. When it strikes midnight on the bell towers of Einsiedeln Abbey , the tricks fall silent and the Carnival is officially over. Only the Carnival Society Goldmäuder maintains this custom.
