Uviol glass

Uviol glass is a type of glass with a high proportion of barium phosphate and chromium dioxide . It is permeable to ultraviolet rays up to 250 nm. It was invented by Eberhard Zschimmer (1873–1940) and manufactured by Schott AG in Jena . Uviol glass is used for light therapy in greenhouses and sanatoriums, among other things . It is still used in the lenses of astrophysical instruments.

Uviol is an artificial word made up of the parts Uv , the common abbreviation for ultraviolet radiation, the supplementary syllable viol , which is also taken from the word ultraviolet, and glass .
